Field Guide - Summer Coastal Birds
BA3054

£5.50
£5.50

Description

The FSC Summer coastal birds guide features 28 of the birds to spot around the coast of Britain and Ireland in the summer months.

Illustrations show birds their adult summer (breeding) plumage. Accompanying text on the reverse side covers body size, summer activity and key identification characters for each species.

The guide includes both cliff-nesting birds (like gannet and razorbill) and wading birds (such as oystercatcher and avocet), as well as all the common seagulls. Some of these coastal birds are resident in the UK throughout the year. Others only arrive in the summer to breed.

The coastline of Britain and Ireland supplies a rich source of food for seabirds. Terns and the cliff nesting birds plunge into the water for sand eels and small fish, while larger birds like gannets will even catch herring and mackerel. Waders use their long bills to probe sand and mud for marine worms and cockles. Rockpools and rocky shores provide an abundance of molluscs such as mussels and winkles. Sand dunes and shingle supply a rich source of insects and other invertebrates.

Many seabirds nest in large colonies. These may be on rocky cliffs and stacks, or sandy beaches, shingle ridges and small islands. The nests are often not much more than a scrap on the ground or cliff ledge, with a scattering of seaweed, plant material, and other debris. However basic they may seem, you can often see them taking a great deal of attention in where to place individual pieces. In general, nesting in colonies helps give protection from predators.

Our popular coastal bird field guide measures 24.5cmx17.5cm and is extremely lightweight and compact, and the perfect identification chart this summer for popping in your bag when heading to the coast. All wildlife identification guides are laminated, meaning they are showerproof for use outside. and can be wiped clean.

Delivery

We use Royal Mail for delivery and you should ensure that someone is available to receive the parcel or add delivery instructions when placing your order.

We aim to deliver your goods to you within 3 to 5 working days of receiving your order. However, please allow another 7 working days before querying a non-delivery. If any item is out of stock you will receive a credit note or an item will be substituted.

We regret to inform you that as of January 2024, we can no longer offer delivery outside of the United Kingdom. This is due to the increase in postal charges and the additional European import taxes that are applied, of which we have no control. We appreciate that this is disappointing news and may cause inconvenience to some of you, but unfortunately, we have no control over these charges and as a charity, we are unable to absorb the increase in costs. We hope that you understand the measures that we have had to take and that you will continue to support us and our efforts to protect whales and dolphins.

We do not deliver to P.O. Boxes.
